Manipur reign supreme in Mayor Trophy All-India tourney

Manipur bagged a double by winning both the men and women titles in the First Mayor Trophy All-India Sepak Takraw Tournament at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall here today. In the finals, Manipur men beat Mizoram 2-1, while their women defeated Delhi 2-0. Ingoba Singh and E Binalata Devi (both Manipur) were adjudged the best male and female players respectively in the one-day tournament, which was organised by Bhubaneswar Sepak Takraw Association under the aegis of Orissa State Sepak Takraw Association.

The winners received Rs 10,000 each, while the runners-up were given Rs 5,000 each. Rajya Sabha Member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra handed over the trophy and cash prizes in the presence of Food Supplies Minister Sarada Prasad Nayak, local MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty and city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

The tournament coincided with the announcement of the Indian teams for the 25th Kings Cup World Sepak Takraw Championship to be held Chaing Mai in Thailand from July 27 to August 1.
